I went to Hinton and set out 3 - David Thompson Caches in locations that were all accepted places of his wanderings. One was in the back woods of the Black Cat Mountain area and while there I stayed at the Black Cat Ranch and Lodge. It was pretty darn skookum if you ask me. Very rustic. No phones and no TV`s.
For $126.00 I got a bed, a shower and homemade breakfast. I also had some pretty good conversation with the owner. One of her dogs and I became instant friends. One of the Solomon Creek caches is up to interpretation as to the location of DTs Goods Shed, here is "The Google Location" around the Black Cat Mountain area.
The online website called "Northwest Journal " has a pretty good argument that his interpretation of David Thompsons`s calculations for his Latitudes and Longitudes were in error and have been corrected for this location. His argument makes a lot of "Horse Sense" IMHO
Once you get on the ground and follow Solomon Creek back uphill about 3 miles you would believe it also.
On another note, here is a photo of the Jasper House Plaque on highway 16 about 300m from and across the river from the second Jasper House. Click on the link below to see my photos.
My Jasper House Visit
I also set a cache near to the ORIGINAL Jasper House on the North End of Brule Lake. The railroad grade goes right overtop of the original fort.It had been placed there by DT himself and was then moved towards the Jasper House location I am referring to above. Why was it called Jasper House?
Follow the link and read the photos I took. You can pick any size photo so they can be read online.
